See how one of our brides arranged to get this magnificent marquee for nothing

Marquees are a unique opportunity for a bride to create a perfect wedding reception, giving you the opportunity to have your party at home (without the mess of course), when you want rather than when a venue is available, and to party until 6.00am (if your neighbours are very, very friendly!).

You can create the style and palette to suit your wedding whether it be vintage, rustic or classic. Decorated with bunting, rows of trestle tables, wooden chairs or benches, globe lanterns, flowers and greenery or whatever ticks all the boxes. The sunny afternoon with open sides can then be transformed with lighting for the evening celebration.

So how did our bride get this marquee for FREE? She bought it on Ebay, second hand and then resold it after the event. It was 40ft x 20ft, heavy duty and only cost £435. It was able to seat around 50 guests.

You need to think about parking for guests and  suppliers and good signage so people know where to park. You will need to book some portable loos and check what your caterers need. Long banqueting tables work well for rustic themes and you can fit more guests in.

Decorating the marquee is part of the fun and the beauty of them is you have so much height to play with. You can hang lanterns, bunting and disco balls and consider draping which creates beautiful entrances. Lighting is very important and don’t forget to light up the garden and pathways.

There are lots of other considerations and don’t underestimate the amount of work involved – not only in the organisation but the actual set up. But the whole family can get involved, costs can be dramatically reduced and it could end up being the best wedding ever!
